PLORE
1) Predict:
· Read the title, subtitle, pictures, charts, graphs or tables
· Read the first three sentences in the essay
· Read the last three sentences in the essay
· Write the prediction (This story will be about…) above or under the title
2) Locate:
· Circle the word that is underlined
· Write 2/2 beside the line In which the underline word is found
· Circle the sentence in which the underline word is found. Plus the two
sentences before and the two after (for a total of five circle sentences).
3) Organize:
· Read the question carefully
· Circle important words (one question at a time)
· Write BME (beginning, middle, end) for Summary questions
B – two sentences (Beginning)
M – two sentences (Middle)
E – two sentences (End)

Remember this is done to each of the answers.

· Write P (paragraph), L (line), E (evidence) near each question
4) Read: the story/passage carefully (TWO TIMES!)
5) Evaluate:
· Reread and Evaluate each question carefully
· Copy the evidence exactly as it appears in the story/passage/poem
· Carefully choose your answer, then cross out the remaining answers
REMEMBER : there are 2 dumb questions, 1 false question, and one correct answer! You also have only one brain questions per essay
Double passages: When you have one question and you need to use two passages to answer it make a T table to compare or contrast the passages.
